# Human Handoff

When your device needs Face ID, a passcode or a permission, Device MCP alerts you, and your agent carries on when you're done.

Some things only you should do: Face ID, a passcode, signing in to your Apple Account or approving a purchase. When your agent reaches one of these, Device MCP alerts you, waits for you, and lets the agent carry on when you're done.

## 1. How it works

1. Your agent is working on the device and reaches a step it can't do, for example a Face ID prompt.
2. Device MCP alerts you with a Mac notification and a sound, even when it's in the background. A banner appears over the mirror, saying what's needed.
3. You finish the step on the device, or on the mirror.
4. Click **I'm Done** in the notification or on the banner. Your agent picks up where it left off.

## 2. What Device MCP notices

Your agent can ask for you at any time. Device MCP also notices common prompts on its own while an agent is working, such as:

* Face ID, Touch ID and passcode prompts
* Apple Account sign-in
* **Allow Paste** and permission prompts
* VPN, profile and purchase confirmations

## 3. Settings

Open **Device MCP → Settings → MCP**:

* **Alert Me When a Device Needs Face ID or a Passcode**: turn automatic alerts on or off. It's on by default.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Allow **Notifications** for Device MCP in **System Settings → Notifications**, so you get the alert while you work in other apps.
{% endhint %}
