# iPhone & iPad

Set up an iPhone or iPad on iOS 27 for Device MCP, then connect it over USB or Wi-Fi.

Device MCP works with any iPhone and iPad on iOS 27 or iPadOS 27 or later. Nothing is installed on the device: no helper app, no profile and no certificate.

## 1. Prepare your device

You only do this once per device.

1. **Connect** the device to your Mac with a cable.
2. **Trust this Mac**: unlock the device and tap **Trust** when it asks, then enter your passcode.
3. **Turn on Developer Mode**: open **Settings → Privacy & Security → Developer Mode**, turn it on and restart the device. After the restart, unlock it and tap **Turn On**.
4. **Turn on UI Automation**: open **Settings → Developer** and turn on **Enable UI Automation**, so your Mac can control the device.

{% hint style="info" %}
Don't see **Developer Mode** in Settings? Plug the device into your Mac with Device MCP open, then click **Show Developer Mode in Settings** in Device MCP. The option appears on the device right away.
{% endhint %}

Device MCP shows the device in the sidebar and starts mirroring. If something is still missing, it tells you what to do. See [Device Status](../help/device-status.md).

## 2. USB or Wi-Fi

Device MCP mirrors and controls your device over a cable or over Wi-Fi.

* **USB** gives the sharpest picture and the fastest response.
* **Wi-Fi** works without a cable, when your Mac and the device are on the same network. Connect the device with a cable and trust your Mac once, before you use Wi-Fi.

Choose how Device MCP connects in **Settings → General → Connection**:

| Option | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Automatic** | Uses USB while the device is plugged in, and Wi-Fi when it isn't. It switches on its own when you plug in or unplug. |
| **USB Only** | Only uses the cable. |
| **Wi-Fi Only** | Only uses Wi-Fi, even when the cable is plugged in. |

The sidebar shows a USB or Wi-Fi icon next to each device, so you always know how it's connected.

## 3. Supported versions

| Version | Status |
| --- | --- |
| iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 or later | ✅ Supported |
| iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 or earlier | Not supported. Update the device in **Settings → General → Software Update**. |

{% hint style="info" %}
When a new iOS version comes out before Device MCP supports it, Device MCP offers **Check for Updates…** and **Try Anyway**.
{% endhint %}
