# Installation

Download Device MCP, check the requirements and finish the first launch on your Mac.

Device MCP is a native app for macOS. Download it, move it to your Applications folder and open it. There is nothing to install on your iPhone or iPad.

## 1. Requirements

| | Requirement |
| --- | --- |
| **Mac** | macOS 26 or later |
| **iPhone & iPad** | iOS 27 or iPadOS 27 or later, with Developer Mode on |
| **Build & Run** (optional) | Xcode, for agents that build your app from source |

## 2. Download

1. [Download Device MCP](/download).
2. Open the downloaded disk image and drag **Device MCP** to your **Applications** folder.
3. Open **Device MCP** from Applications.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you open Device MCP from the disk image or the Downloads folder, it offers to move itself. Click **Move to Applications Folder**, so updates and AI agents can always find it.
{% endhint %}

## 3. First Launch

On the first launch, macOS may ask two questions. Allow both:

* **Notifications**: Device MCP uses them to tell you when a device needs you, for example for Face ID or a passcode. See [Human Handoff](ai-agents/human-handoff.md).
* **Allow accessory to connect?**: macOS asks this the first time you plug in a device. Click **Allow**, otherwise Device MCP can't see the device.

Then follow the [Quick Start](quick-start.md) to connect your first device.

## 4. Updates

Device MCP checks for new versions on its own and asks before it installs one. Every update is signed and verified.

* Turn the automatic checks on or off in **Settings → General → Check for Updates Automatically**.
* Check right away with **Device MCP → Check for Updates…**

See what changed in each version in the [Changelog](/changelog).

## 5. Open at Login

To have Device MCP ready whenever you plug in a device, turn on **Settings → General → Open at Login**.
