Troubleshooting
Fixes for common problems with Device MCP, from a device that doesn't show up to an agent that can't connect.
1. My device doesn't show up
- Make sure the device runs iOS 27 or iPadOS 27 or later.
- Unlock the device and tap Trust if it asks.
- If macOS asked Allow accessory to connect?, click Allow.
- Try another cable or port. Some cables only charge.
- Over Wi-Fi, make sure your Mac and the device are on the same network, and check Settings → General → Connection in Device MCP.
2. The mirror stopped or froze
Click Reconnect in the More (…) menu, or press ⇧⌘R.
If Device MCP says another app is mirroring the device, for example Xcode's Device Hub, close it there, then click Reconnect. A device can be mirrored by one app at a time.
3. Taps or typing don't work
- Click the mirror once, so your keystrokes go to the device.
- For other languages and emoji, tap Allow when iOS asks Allow Paste.
- On the device, open Settings → Developer and make sure Enable UI Automation is on. See iPhone & iPad.
4. The device doesn't stay rotated
iOS keeps a rotation only while the device lies flat. Lay it on the table and rotate again.
5. My agent can't find Device MCP
- Open Device MCP, and turn on Settings → MCP → Enable MCP Server.
- Make sure you have Device MCP Pro.
- Check that Device MCP is in your Applications folder. The setup on the MCP page points there.
- Restart your agent after adding Device MCP.
6. My agent stops waiting
Building your app or waiting for your approval can take a few minutes. In Codex, set tool_timeout_sec = 900 as shown on the MCP page.
7. Build & Run fails
- Open the project in Xcode and make sure it builds for a device, with automatic signing.
- Read the log in the Build & Run tab to see why.
- Over Wi-Fi, connect the cable and try again.
8. Still need help?
Choose Help → Export Diagnostics… in Device MCP. It saves a file on your Mac and doesn't send anything. Then contact us and attach the file, and we'll get back to you.
